Certificate Program in the
PEPPER INSTITUTE ON AGING AND PUBLIC POLICY
Established in 1976, and renamed in 1992, the Pepper Institute on Aging and Public Policy has campus-wide involvement in stimulating and coordinating research, teaching, and public affairs activities related to the aging process, the elderly, and social policy. Multidisciplinary opportunities to learn more about the aging process, elder services, and the social, economic and political implications of an aging society are available through many units across the campus. The Pepper Institute, which houses the Mildred and Claude Pepper Eminent Scholar Chair in Social Gerontology, offers undergraduate and graduate certificates in gerontology that can be completed by any student in the University. Application to the program is made to the Pepper Institute on Aging and Public Policy.
Requirements for the undergraduate certificate in gerontology include a one-semester seventy-five (75) hour supervised field experience in a setting associated with services for the elderly and the completion of nine (9) semester hours of course work in gerontology from the list of approved courses.
