Accessing the Course Look Up:
While accessible from a number of sites, the two main sites are: http://registrar.fsu.edu or http://www.studentsfirst.fsu.edu.
1. Go to either site.
2. Click on the link for "Course Search"
You will see a web page similar to Figure 1 below. From this screen you will have several options. You may search for courses several ways:
By prefix and number. Prefix is the three-letter designator of course content. The course number is a four-digit number, sometimes followed by a C or L. The first digit is commonly referred at the level indicator.
By department. The academic unit offering the course, regardless of prefix or number.
By year and term. The year is the actual calendar year in which you plan to take a course. Term is equivalent to the semester. You have three possible selections - Spring, Summer, and Fall.
By course level. Indicates the general level of the course content. 1000 - 4000 level courses are undergraduate courses. 5000-level and higher and graduate courses.
By course location. Indicates where the course is taught. FSU has a number of branch campuses or study centers, as well as off-campus programs. FSU main campus is the Tallahassee campus.
By special program. Indicates special programs or categories of courses that have some similar feature, regardless of department, college or school. The student must be enrolled in the specific program used as search criteria in order to register for classes meeting these criteria.
By additional search criteria. Indicates interdepartmental and interdisciplinary programs, as well as distance and service learning programs. Students do not necessarily need to be enrolled in the specific program in order to register for classes meeting these criteria.
By start and end time. Allows an individual to define a range of time in which the course starts or ends, regardless of offering department, prefix or number. It is typically used when searching for courses to meet a specific time frame.
By open sections only or all sections. Open sections are those sections that still have seats open, and that someone could choose during registration. "All sections" displays a combination of open and filled sections. The default on this field is to show only open sections. This may be changed by clicking in the box to remove the checkmark.
Each of these fields may be used in combination to restrict and refine the query to display to courses most closely meeting your scheduling needs. Some combinations are mutually exclusive, and will result in a message statement that "No Courses Were Found for Your Query". Use the browse "Back" button or the "Back to the Course Look Up" link to return to the search page and select different criteria.
